So fun I have no words. Mods make it even funner. A while back I played the game going one direction through the world, recently I began a new playthrough strictly going the opposite way; I believe this has given me a bit more perspective when making this review now.Rain World is easily summed up: An overwhelmingly dangerous world. I cannot stress enough the "overwhelming" part of that. Your character is, in a word: Weak. You're not the fastest, not the most agile, absolutely not the strongest, and you're just smart enough to be able to use tools and such to your advantage, not to mention you aren't even a full adult of your species from what I can tell. The creatures, the environments, the RAIN... it will kill you; on top of this death feels punishing too, having you lose a relative amount of progress to an extent. All this culminated- I can see why this title is rated such in the way it is. It's, to say the least, unconventional. The controls, admittedly, occasionally don't function properly. To put it bluntly: The experience will be inconsistent. You have to push through the bad, the evil, the hungry, and the greedy to get to your only two sources of friendship: Food and shelter (shelter itself might not even be a friend as it simply makes you have to face the evils the next day). On TOP of this... you likely won't know what to do and will have to experience things yourself through trial and error, certain mechanics are so mindbogglingly unclear that I couldn't figure them out until I started thinking outside the box.Now then... from what I've said here, I imagine you're wondering how anyone in their right mind could enjoy something as simply ****ing sadistic as this? Well maybe I'm not in my right mind. Maybe this game brought me out of my sanity, moreso than any Soul's game ever did, but that being said... I still enjoy it.The world is truly amazing, the creatures are great when you get to know them (except those damn nematodes), and when you get to that next area- that next sleep station, you really do feel like you're getting somewhere, even if it's slow. It's not a perfect experience, but I like it a great deal.. very enlightening game. Awful gameplay, just watch for plot somewhere and buy only if you want to support devs. If dwarf fortress was an exploration platformer it would be called rain world.Like this is beyond brutal. The game's monsters and envivorment will mercilessly ♥♥♥♥ you up over and over again until you start to learn it, then you learn but still get ♥♥♥♥ed over becouse you don't know♥♥♥♥♥♥yet kid. Then you'll go boldly flinging spears at your predators, and as adrelanin rushes your veins they fall one by one, they bleed out. And then a vulture sweeps in from the air yoinks your squishy body from the screen...But after the 50th of try... you you became one with mother nature (exept this nature is like an aborted alien eco experiment gone wrong) you backflip and leap across the screen barely evading their jaws. then when a route is blocked by overwhelming odds you know instantly where you can bypass them trough secret tunnels, or you where to get items to even the fight, eat a mushroom to slow down time and matrix your way across dozens of scavengers, or throw a bomb to blow up a pack of lizards out of your way. You'll gain knowledge about the world around you, you'll know each predators behavior and their weaknesses, you'll find epic lore about an ancient civilization long gone, and you'll have a chance to meet godlike caracters giving you guidence.. Game of the century and will all ways be my favorite. Two things I have to say though.1. Read all of the guide below2. DO NOT READ THE WIKI UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. It WILL ruin the whole game for you and takes 99% of the fun away.Over all 100/10 would totally recommendhttps://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=944220883. Repetitive, boring, incoherent game with lots of design flaws. I've only played an hour so far and am in love. Will update later.
